Representatives from the National Inventors Hall of Fame gave a presentation about their organization to TIPLA at the Toledo Club on January 20, 2016.

Vondea Sheaffer is Manager, Development & Endowment for Invent Now, the parent organization for the National Inventors Hall of Fame and has been with the organization four years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Akron and a Masters in Nonprofit Management from Kent State University. She works with corporations, foundations and individuals to secure private support for all Invent Now programs. She and her husband have three grown daughters and live in Hartville, OH.

Alex McCall is a Grants Writer for Invent Now and has been with the organization for one year. She has a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from The Ohio State University. She has a strong interest in social justice causes and secures funding for Invent Now’s children’s education programs. She is a resident of Doylestown, OH.

The NIHF website (www.invent.org) has a comprehensive database of information on each of the Inductees- from their patent numbers and universities to explanations of the invention for which they were nominated.

The Camp Invention website www.campinvention.org shares more specific information on the program and if you click Register you can search by zip-code or city for the nearest Camp program.

The USPTO held a presentation at the UT College of Law on August 28th, relating to Section 101 and Alice v. CLS Bank.  The presentation was part of a Midwest tour of lectures supported by the PTO Detroit Office and included a panel group discussion.  A copy of the slides from this presentation may be found by clicking here.

Dear TIPLA Members,

We are excited to announce that our Spring CLE Program will be Ethics and Privilege In Intellectual Property Matters.

This preprogram will be held at the Law School’s McQuade Auditorium on Friday April 10th from Noon- 3:30.

The program has been submitted for 2.5 Hrs. of Professionalism/Ethics credits (the whole requirement for an Ohio biennium) and 0.5 Hrs. general CLE credit.

We are co-sponsoring the program with the Toledo Bar Association and the University of Toledo, College of Law. A clip of the TBA announcement is below.

Please let me know, by return email, if you are planning on attending. There is no need to sign up with the TBA.

As TIPLA Members, this event and the CLE credits are included as part of you member benefits.

Dear TIPLA Members,

In conjunction with activities at the Toledo Bar Association, IP Committee, we are pleased to offer the attached CLE program on Copyright Issues related to photography and appropriation art.

The event is “Tech Law 2.0” and will be held at Seed Coworking (25 S. St. Clair St.) on Friday, Feb. 27th from 9:00 to 11:30.

The program is accredited for 2.5 hours of general CLE and is offered to TIPLA members at the discounted Toledo Bar Association fee of $70.

TIPLA will be holding a luncheon meeting on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Noon in the Toledo Club. The luncheon meeting will include a casual conversation with Magistrate Judge James R. Knepp, II from the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio. Judge Knepp will talk about what’s new at the district court, any interesting decisions and cases, trends going forward, etc.
